Introduction
Proverbs 17:22 – A joyful heart is good medicine, But a broken spirit dries up the bones.
Laughter is the best medicine – the Bible tells me so!
Hi, my name is Wendy Smith, and I have a confession to make --- I AM A CHURCH BRAT!
I cannot remember a time that church wasn’t my life! If you know me, you know that I am definitely the epitome of a “church brat.” If Webster had a definition you would see my picture! I have stories from growing up in church that will make you laugh until you cry! No joke.
I live in the wild, wonderful, beautiful Bible belt region of West Virginia. I am married to the love of my life, George, and we live nestled in a small, close-knit community that is the absolute best!
We do not have any children, but we love our furbabies. We adopted Gracie, a sheltie, at 2 years old, and now she is 8, and Layla, a border collie, we adopted on February 9th, 2021, at 9 years old. We love our furbabies and treat them like they are our kids!
I love living in West Virginia!!!
The Spring is so amazing to me! I love it when the trees start looking “fuzzy,” and I know that there will be an explosion of magnificent colors real soon! It is pretty exciting to get up every morning and see another splash of color, and then it turns into a burst of vibrant green!
That leads up to Summer. Ah…. Summer. I am not a fan of the heat, but I love looking from my air-conditioned house (or through my air-conditioned car windshield driving) and seeing the beauty of Summer. The kids laughing, people walking through town or around our local high school, kids in the park swinging, and families picnicking! It is a sight to see. As it fades into Fall!
The Fall in WV is absolutely stunning! The brightest colors light up our mountains with an intensity that only God can create! I love driving through the mountains and spotting colors that just amaze me that it is real. Crayola cannot duplicate these colors because God is the only one with the ingredients and recipe for them. Then you get up one day, and you know, it is over, and Winter is here.
Old man Winter riding up in his horse-drawn carriage, lol. Winter is definitely not my favorite time of year, but I love it when I can stay home and not have to drive in it. But it is as beautiful as it is cold! The mountains look like an icy blue haven! It is stunning – looks like a postcard. Icicles dripping off the sides of the mountains. Massive – like spears just hanging off the edge of rocks or waterfalls frozen as it tumbled over the mountainside.
This is where we live. We live in the southern part of the state, and to say there isn’t much to do without traveling at least an hour, is an understatement!
There are times that we are snowed in cannot get out, or it is raining so hard we have to stay inside. There are times my saint of a husband will look at me and say, “Tell me a church story!” or “Tell me that story from Maryland under the tent.” We both know one story leads to another, and before you know it, we are laughing the night away, just from my experiences! My real life!
I want to share thoughts, insights, stories, address my current situations and pour out my "infinite church wisdom" as I guide you through the ups and downs of being a church brat (that was my childhood!).
Now, there are things we cannot laugh our way out of or through, but with a relationship with God, Godly friends, prayer warriors that will war for you when you can’t – we do get through. We need each other!
Thank you for taking this journey with me!
